What is IBDP?
The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is a very academic and challenging education programme. Created in 1968, it is intended for highly motivated students and it is normally taught over two years with final examinations at the end of the Year II of the programme. The purpose of the IB DP is to prepare students, normally aged 16 to 19, for university and future careers. The programme was developed in efforts to estalish a common curriculum and valid university entry credentials for students moving from one country to another.
IB DP students do not have to worry about university admission. Due to its rigorous assessment, the programme has gained recognition and respect from the world's leading universities. For more info check: http://www.ibo.org/recognition/
The DP grading system is criterion referenced: each student's performance is measured against well-defined levels of achievement, which is consistent from one examination session to the next, and not against achievement of other students.
When it comes to the IB DP at our school, Druga Gimnazija Sarajevo was the first school in Bosnia and Herzegovina to introduce the IB DP in 2000. The programme is taught in English and the final exams take place in May examination session. So far more than one hundred students have earned their IB diplomas from Druga gimnazija.
